¡CARNAVAL Santa Fe! - It's Time To Play! originated with the Museum of International Folk Art's
¡CARNAVAL! exhibit (Each of these two links will open in another window that is not part of this website) opening Friday November 19, 2004 and curated by the hardest working team member, Barbara Mauldin, Curator of Latin American Collections. ¡CARNAVAL SANTA FE! is a collaborative project of the Museum of International Folk Art, the City of Santa Fe Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and the independent ¡CARNAVAL SANTA FE! committee. It highlights educational and entertainment opportunities for New Mexico residents and visitors and encourages travel to Santa Fe. In addition to sponsoring special events during the 2005 Carnival season, ¡CARNAVAL SANTA FE! will feature special Carnival-related activities throughout the community from May to August 2005.

"This exhibition is about PLAY,” says ¡CARNAVAL! curator Barbara Mauldin, the museum’s curator of Latin American folk art. “All Carnival participants have the opportunity to leave the everyday world, become someone else, and behave in unusual ways. We are encouraging groups in Santa Fe to form masquerade brigades and make the most of ¡CARNAVAL SANTA FE!
